A BRIEF IF SOMEWHAT AGGRESSIVE STATE OF THE UNION

i was too young in the 90s to make meaningful memories of anything but the 2000s had me finding the corpses of many a personal website and wondering what could have been. living niches existed then too, islands i explored at length and in excess. i hope to gradually create here the same kind of thing younger me would have appreciated.

i love the internet but i hate the modern internet. every minute spent on social media is a speck of life force sucked from the soul. considering my crippling internet addiction, those specks add up.

i made a website because i love websites, real ones that aren't billions-strong aggregates of datafarming. you should build one too. it's good for you.

make something you don't monetize. please.

a website or work of art or website of art or whatever doesn't have to be spectacular to be worth viewing. this is law. under this law, everything you and i make can be of value.

a web page's first purpose is to convey information. this doesn't have to be riveting or mindblowing or concrete information (even an unbroken wall of gifs conveys information about its curator), but it should be the jewel. decoration and interrupting hyperlinks and seo-optimization are in service of this information. web pages that are the other way around are the villain here.

hate your little phone browser. i won't make my site mobile friendly until i feel like it and for the last thousand years i haven't felt like it. sit in front of a proper monitor or laptop screen like god intended.
